Concord Grapes

The Concord grapes are getting to be the right size now they just need to ripen. These grapes are growing in southern Indiana. Once they are ripe I will turn them into organic grape juice.

Louisville Kentucky Lincoln Memorial

Here are some scenes from a recently installed Lincoln Memorial on the Ohio River waterfront to celebrate the 200th birthday of President Lincoln who was born in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. It is located on River Road in between the old railroad bridge without ends and the I-65 overpass. The riverwalk path goes by the memorial and it has a parking lot. It is a nice spot to see information about events during Lincoln's day and study the artist's interpretation of what Lincoln looked like.

Views for the Ohio River Front

Views from the Ohio River front located in Louisville, Kentucky. If you ever visit and are looking for a free place to go in Louisville. Check out the Great Lawn next to the Ohio River. It is part of the riverwalk system which is a big sidewalk and riding path that goes along the Ohio River in front of downtown Louisville.

There is a public water attraction with water canons, waterfalls, and dancing fountains. This picture is of one of the waterfalls. Same waterfall but picture taken at different angle.

Abraham Lincoln Statue at Louisville Riverfront

I finally got to the Abraham Lincoln Memorial in Louisville, Kentucky. It is a nice park area near the river. Here are a few pictures I took.

Blackberry Lily

Here is a beautiful flower that appeared in the flower garden last week. It has quite a few spots. It is called a Blackberry Lily (Belamcanda).

Found it in growing in Clark County, Indiana.

Purple Phlox Flowers

Watermelon Tourmaline

According to Wikipedia, tourmaline is a crystal silicate mineral combined with other elements to produce different colors. This variety is called watermelon since it has the colors and look of watermelon slice. The compounds that make it up could be elbaite (green=verdelite) or liddicoatlite.

These specimens are from Brazil and are on display at the Indiana University Southeast (IUS) in New Albany Life Sciences Building in the Geosciences department. They were part of the Jimmy C. Davis collection.

To Bee or Not A Bee

Here is a picture of either a Artogeia melete or Cabbage White Butterfly. I found pictures on the Internet that seem to match it but identified by these two names.

This insect appears to be some sort of wasp or hornet.
Maybe a small sweat bee resting on a double orange day lily.

Bees in Action

This could be a honey bee. Bees are one of my favorite insects since they help pollinate crops I grow.
The black and yellow bees might be carpenter bees.

This bee seems different than the others as it collects nectar and pollen of a purple cone flower.
