I picked my first peach not because I thought it was fully ripe but the peach was damaged. Half of the peach was good but the other side was starting to rot and had been eaten on by a bird.
The half that I salvaged was tasty... it was soft and sweet. I hope it is a harbinger of a good peach crop for 2013!

Last of the 2012 Peaches
Peaches from the third peach tree. For some reason, its peaches ripened 2 months after the other two trees (June 2012). I originally was going to let the squirrels have these peaches but they do not seem too interested right now. So I picked these two and trimmed off the bad parts and found the pieces shown above. They were pretty good. Hopefully, a good peach crop will happen next year as well...

Large Watermelons in the Patch
Looks like there is a good chance to get some 30 lb watermelons this year. The plants are still growing and the fruit is getting large. Especially the back field with the Charleston Grey melons.
The last picture is a cluster of Crimson Sweet melons. Two I have already picked but they have not been weighed yet. Pictures on those soon.

Peaches
One of the little peach trees has two peaches on it. They are not huge but the tree is quite small. The peaches are about the size of walnuts right now.
It looks like the top picture is starting to ripen.

Growing Concord Grapes

Ripe Cherries
The small cherry tree now has ripe cherries of which the birds are now taking special interest. These cherries are not sweet like the Bing cherries you find in the grocery store, they are more tart.
As a child I remember my mother making cherry pies, cobbler, strudel, and preserves.
The preserves were the best.
